Catering for customer demand in Holt

A Welsh retailer who has just converted his store to a Nisa Local has delighted his shoppers with a hugely improved range that is whetting all their appetites.

Jeremy Hughes, who has been running his independent convenience store in the village of Holt, near Wrexham for almost 30 years said his customers have been asking for more and more fresh and chilled goods over the years and the demand is not slowing down.

The experienced retailer believes his move to Nisa in early July will allow him to better cater for shopper demand for good quality fresh and chilled produce.

Since opening with the new signage earlier this month, his customers have been overjoyed by the increased choice and sales are on the up. And while it’s too early for accurate figures, Jeremy said his expanded range, particularly in chilled, is selling “really well”.

An initial 360 Co-op skus have been introduced across the store with another 200 planned over the coming months.

Jeremy said: “We have had lots of positive comments from our customers since we launched. We have been in the village a long time and know most shoppers by name and I like to think I know my customers well, but I have been really surprised by how much they like the Co-op range.”

The 1,600 sq.ft. store, which has been trading as a Spar for the past five years, was in very good condition and the conversion to Nisa required minimum effort. Along with the new exterior signage, internal vinyls and graphics have been installed along with Nisa’s Evolution Epos system.

The biggest change, explained Jeremy, has been to the range, with the density increasing dramatically, particularly in chill and fresh produce, providing loyal customers with a much-enhanced choice.

“It’s early days, but it is all going well. Having access to the Co-op range has allowed me to get all the benefits of stocking such a great quality range at a good price, but I still get the advantages of being an independent,” said Jeremy.
