New store delight after decade of delays

After a wait of almost a decade, a Cardiff based Nisa retailer is now the proud owner of a brilliant new store in purpose-built premises on a busy shopping parade.

Anjum Khan, a Nisa partner for 10 years, has had to be patient to see his dream store realised due to local council regeneration plans to re-develop the site earmarked for his shop.

But after a series of delays and changes to plans, the store in Lewis Court has now opened and Anjum is enjoying excellent sales in his new spot.

“The shopping parade still looks a little bit like a construction site and so not all customers realise the store is fully open yet however shoppers who have been here so far are really impressed and news is now spreading fast,” said Anjum.

Having now moved into the new building the old store is still waiting to be demolished but once that has happened, it will provide parking facilities for the store as well as clearing the view of the new store and making it stand out from the main shop gallery run.

Although the site is still being developed and several units are yet to be occupied, this has not affected trading for Anjum with sales soaring.

He said: “Sales in the first week were fantastic and beat the best ever sales levels in my old store and numbers are growing daily.”

The key addition to the new store is the focus on the food to go operation. Demand is already higher than anticipated with customers requiring ready to eat, in-store made meal solutions both during the week and over the weekend which is driving sales way ahead of initial targets.

Key design elements within the store include the open glazing used above wall equipment and a high ceiling, giving the store a spacious and airy feel.

And the very latest low energy consumption refrigeration from Arneg Aire has been installed in the store which is expected to lead to large savings.

“It’s absolutely fantastic to be in the new store at long last and the fact that my shoppers like it so much and sales are doing so well makes it worth the wait,” said Anjum.
