Super start for Brown Edge ‘Stoneleigh’ store

Eight months after taking centre stage at Nisa’s annual trade show, the Stoneleigh store has been resurrected and is now open for business in a Staffordshire village.

Residents of Brown Edge near Stoke welcomed the fantastic new Nisa Local store with a community celebration at the weekend that saw local people enjoy product sampling alongside comic book superheroes who turned out for the occasion.

Keith’s, a 6,000 sq.ft. outlet, was sold to Nisa partner Amacor Capital in August last year and since then planning has been ongoing to redevelop the store with a raft of improvements, converting into Nisa’s latest Evolution format store and fascia.

All the fittings and fixtures within the store are those featured in the 2019 Nisa Expo Stoneleigh store which Amacor purchased ahead of the exhibition in April this year, having been impressed with the previous year’s display.

The store was packed up after the show closed and Nisa’s format and development team have spent months tweaking and adjusting to enable it to slot into Keith’s.

Martin Corban, managing director of Amacor, said: “We had seen the Evolution store format at Stoneleigh and knew it was just what we needed for Keith’s to bring it up to date and provide the local community with a shop they deserved and that they would enjoy to use.

“Keith’s is a well-established store that is in the heart of the village and has served Brown Edge for many years.

“We want to continue that tradition and ensure Keith’s remains a community store that sells what the people of the village need.”

The store closed for three weeks to allow the refurbishment to take place and re-opened on Saturday to the delight of hundreds of local people who were thrilled with the bright and airy new look shop.

Hot and cold food to go options and a coffee machine have been added along with a butchery counter, pizza counter and a small delicatessen. A large selection of Co-op own label products has been added into the new product range alongside a wide range of branded goods and a selection of locally sourced products.

The fresh and chilled food range has been expanded with the number of chiller bays doubling to make the most of the category and a Post Office counter incorporated – offering another vital for local people.

Darren May, Nisa’s head of format and development said: “This is a spectacular store in a great location and the perfect flagship for Amacor. It was a fantastic team effort by all involved in order to make the store ready for launch day and it’s brilliant to see the doors open and shoppers enjoying it.”

Head of key accounts at Nisa, Vicky Lockie said: “It is just wonderful to see this project finally come to fruition. We’re looking forward to working with Martin and everyone at Amacor to ensure this latest project is a huge success.”
