Last night the Nisa symbol group was awarded the Symbol Retailer of the Year accolade at the prestigious Grocer Gold Awards at London’s Guildhall. This is the third time that the Nisa symbol group has won a sector leading award in less than 12 months.
The group has significantly developed in the past year; it has increased its member numbers to 860, 700 of which host the Store of the Future fascia, has introduced enhanced offerings for its members including the launch of 48 new own label Heritage products, introduced the ‘buy 1 get 2 free’ promotions as well as the launch of the ‘Wow Deals’. The company has also continued its consumer advertising with adverts in national newspapers every three weeks as well as its television advertising agenda.
The Grocer Gold awards are dubbed the ‘Oscars of the retail world’ and celebrate the food sectors leading grocery retailers. As well as Nisa winning the Symbol Retailer of the Year award, one of its members, North East Convenience Stores, won the Independent Retail Chain of the Year – a huge accolade in the sector.
North East Convenience Stores is a retail company which has grown and flourished significantly throughout the past year. In 2011 the company redeveloped its existing 13 stores and opened a further five stores in and around the North East.
John Heagney, Nisa group symbol director commented, “I’m extremely pleased to have won this outstanding accolade and being the first group to do so makes it even sweeter. This is the third major award that the Nisa symbol group has won and to do the hat-trick in such a short space of time is tremendous. We are committed to helping our members and are introducing new initiatives and tools to help our retailers develop their stores and businesses. We are especially pleased for North East Convenience Stores who have worked tirelessly over the course of the past 18 months to enhance and develop their business.”
Sanjeev Vadhera, director of North East Convenience Stores, commented, “Our business is very special to us and in the retail world it is fairly new, just 10 years old, but we have worked especially hard to build a portfolio of 18 quality stores which provide a pleasurable shopping experience for our customers and are in the heart of the community .To be awarded such a fantastic accolade is humbling and we are very grateful to the judges who have recognised our hard work and dedication to our stores and the communities we serve.”
